Whether you’re vegan, veggie or a flexitarian mixing it up, you can still enjoy the Chuku's experience to the full. With a menu that's 50% vegan, the choice is yours. And if you’ve been searching for great vegan dishes in London that go beyond the usual options, you’re in the right place.
Now we know many guests love their Jollof and Fried Plantain, and we know you love Instagramming our Egusi Bowl. But we wanted to shine the light on three vegan dishes our guests often call some of the best vegan food in London - each one celebrating Nigerian cuisine and culture.
Moi Moi
What Is It?
A vegan and gluten-free savoury steamed pudding made from puréed black-eyed beans, sweet red peppers and onions - bursting with melt-in-your-mouth flavour.
The Story Behind It
Moi Moi is considered the king of any Nigerian party. It’s famously labour-intensive, with a preparation process that requires time, technique and real skill, which is why it’s more commonly enjoyed at big celebrations rather than at home. In many families, if someone makes Moi Moi especially for you, it’s seen as a genuine act of love.
Traditionally, it’s steamed in banana leaves and often includes crayfish, boiled egg or mackerel, so guests familiar with Moi Moi might expect those flavours. At Chuku’s, we keep it pure and plant-based so every guest -vegan or not - can enjoy.
(Tip: Moi Moi is pronounced like “Oi! oi!” with an ‘m’ in front.)
“Amazing!! I should’ve come here a lot earlier. I don’t know why I waited so long. The Moi Moi melted in my mouth so nicely.”
Why You’ll Love It
It’s soft, silky and gently seasoned - a dish that feels both homely and special. Our version stays true to the classic, beautifully coloured with red onion and made with real care. No twists, just traditional Moi Moi. Whether it’s your first taste or a familiar favourite, you’ll experience the authentic Nigerian flavour straight away - which is why vegan diners across London rave about it.
Sinasir & Miyan Taushe
What Is It?
A light, fluffy savoury rice pancake served with a hearty pumpkin and peanut stew - vegan, gluten-free and full of comforting warmth.
The Story Behind It
This dish draws from co-founder Emeka’s travels across Northern Nigeria, where he explored the food culture of the Hausa community - a region and culinary tradition often underrepresented in London’s Nigerian food scene. Sinasir and Miyan Taushe offer a more-ish glimpse into the diversity of Nigerian cuisine and culture, going far beyond what many people know or expect.
“One of my favourites was Sinasir & Miyan Taushe - so flavourful and comforting. You can really feel the love in the food.”
Why You’ll Love It
The soft rice pancake paired with nutty pumpkin stew creates a beautifully balanced blend of sweet and spice. It’s the kind of dish you eat slowly and happily, and then immediately plan to order again. Our co-founder Ifeyinwa has been known to guard her portion like treasure, and once you try it, you’ll understand why. Even guests familiar with Nigerian food often discover something new with this dish, making it a standout vegan option.
Yam Brownie
What Is It?
A gluten-free, vegan chocolate brownie made with rich cocoa, a hint of ginger and Nigeria’s celebrated crop: yam.
The Story Behind It
Yam holds deep cultural significance in Nigeria. In Igbo culture especially, it symbolises strength, hard work and prosperity.
There are entire festivals dedicated to yam and at weddings, yams are often given to the bride’s family as a gesture of honour and respect. Using yam in one of our signature desserts is a playful nod to tradition, blending cultural significance with a modern sweet treat.
“One of the best food experiences in London for years… The flavour of the Yam Brownie stayed with me — like a good movie you can’t get out of your head.”
Why You’ll Love It
Served with vegan salted caramel ice cream, this chocolatey, moist brownie has a unique richness and depth of flavour. It’s indulgent, memorable, and proudly Nigerian. It’s also one of the vegan desserts that keeps guests coming back for.
